I once went through a period when articles I hopefully sent to the Editors of the Christian Science periodicals were consistently rejected. I talked the situation over with my teacher in Christian Science, who asked, "Have you thought of your writing as an expression of love for your readers?"
When I saw writing as an opportunity to love, I sat right down and wrote about an experience that had proved to me that scientific prayer can nullify in moments the threat of unavoidable evil. With a sincere desire to help, I shared the spiritual truths that had come to my rescue. The article was accepted. I was writing to express love.
In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy, the founder of and first contributor to our periodicals, writes: "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love. Without this, the letter is but the dead body of Science,—pulseless, cold, inanimate." Science and Health, p. 113; Love, then, is the heart and soul of Christian Science teaching and literature.
