Testimonies of Healing

In mid-1972, I left my job of fourteen...

From the September 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In mid-1972, I left my job of fourteen years because it seemed to me progressive to take another. The time between this event and the wonderful resolution of my employment situation was over a year, but it proved to me in a way I shall never forget that "a man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men," as is stated in Proverbs (18:16).

This was a time of test and trial. Many of us have often read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy these inspired words (p. 66): "Trials teach mortals not to lean on a material staff,—a broken reed, which pierces the heart" and "Trials are proofs of God's care." I really had to learn to apply the first statement before I could prove the truth of the second.

When I first planned to leave my former employer, I decided that the best way to get another job was to make good contacts and write resumes of my background, while knowing all along that God would lead me eventually into a harmonious situation. I made the mistake, however, of putting my job search before a proper study of Christian Science. My job resolution became a strong obsession with me and became part of my daily routine. Never a day passed without my taking some human footsteps that I felt would lead me to employment.
