While I was in high school, I was invited by one of the teachers to attend a Sunday School class in a Christian Science church. I had been searching for several years for a logical explanation of the meaning of life and the events recorded in the Bible. From the first Sunday I knew that I would find in Christian Science the answers to my questions. As I studied the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I began to find these answers, and physical healings appeared as a natural result of my increased understanding of God and of my unity with Him.
One healing that has meant a great deal to me was that of sunburn. This occurred while I was still in my teens. I had been working outdoors with a crew of men, and by quitting time the pain in my face and arms was almost unbearable. I had been sunburned many times before, but now I had an opportunity to apply Christian Science. As soon as I got back to our quarters, I began to study the Lesson-Sermon. I came to the Bible passage "The sun shall not smite thee by day" (Ps. 121:6), and a sense of God's loving care for all His creation so flooded my thought that instantly all pain ceased and I was completely free.
A sound financial status and loving companionship have come to me as my understanding of God's care has enriched my life. My wife and I were able to take class instruction together while our daughter was still very young. As a result of increased understanding of spiritual law and our growing alertness to claim God's protection in our family, our daughter went through elementary school without suffering from any of the so-called children's diseases. She learned early to pray for herself and to heal herself of injuries incurred while playing.
