"This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
Prayer and fasting—
That's what Jesus told them when they couldn't cast the
devil out.
The problem seemed too hard for them.
But what of us today?
Prayer—
Father, we have scaled the mount of prayer,
Pursued pointed petitions,
Bypassed rigid repetitions,
And attained the summit,
Affirming Your allness.
There, filled with the view of infinite possibilities,
We are listening
And fasting—
Have we fasted?
Not as John's disciples, pushing away the platter—
Hunger couldn't reveal error's nothingness.
But full of the spirit, not believing evil's appearing,
Refusing to swallow a lie,
Not listening.
Listening prayer. Unlistening fasting.
