As a child, through the prayer of a Christian Science practitioner I received a quick healing of a throat condition, which my mother had feared was diphtheria. For a few years I attended a Christian Science Sunday School in my hometown, and for one high school year I lived with kind relatives, who enrolled me for that period in The Mother Church Sunday School. A love for Christian Science was the natural result of these experiences; I had begun at its "numeration-table" spoken of by Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 326): "The purpose and motive to live aright can be gained now. This point won, you have started as you should. You have begun at the numeration-table of Christian Science, and nothing but wrong intention can hinder your advancement."
What a joy it has been to have companioned for fifty years with the spiritual ideas in the Christian Science textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health! Among other things, I am greatly indebted to Mrs. Eddy for giving to all the opportunity to understand the spiritual significance of Christ Jesus' words and works—the understanding that enables us to follow his example of healing.
I can only touch on the good brought into my life through the study and practice of Christian Science. I have had enriching relationships with love and unlimited kindness shown me by many; protection in hazardous situations; interesting and varied occupations; a deepening love for all living things, and appreciation for the beautiful and good. Physical healings have included an instantaneous healing of a sprained ankle, severe migraine, a very distressing organic malady, and an injury from a fall.
