Loving Our Herald by Loving Its Purpose

When interviewing a number of applicants for membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, a church committee found that although all the applicants subscribed to some of the Christian Science periodicals, not one had included The Herald of Christian Science in his subscription.

Although subscribing to the periodicals is not mandatory for church membership, members and applicants together took this as a call to widen their mental horizons to embrace the specific purpose of the Herald outlined by Mrs. Eddy, "to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353; Awakened to a deeper sense of commitment to this purpose, a member of the committee promptly became a new subscriber.

Each of the Christian Science periodicals has its part in the Christianization and spiritualization of mankind. Together these spiritual messengers "preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things." Rom. 10:15;
