Christian Science came to me through the Sunday School. The family next door frequently invited me to attend Christian Science Sunday School with them. I went fairly regularly with their two boys while I was in high school. I had the same teacher each time, and she always welcomed me warmly. I was loved by the Sunday School teacher, and I felt the love. It was the love that eventually brought me back into Christian Science.
During World War II my husband was overseas, and I had my first child alone. It did not live. Then there was a stubborn breast infection. The doctors gave up in despair. I decided to call my former Sunday School teacher. This experience was during wartime, when travel wasn't easy. Although this lovely woman was well along in years, she came at once to my bedside, and it was marvelous to see her. She stayed with me for about two hours. She talked to me of God's tender love for all His children. When she left, I was healed. The doctors were amazed, and the next day I was released from the hospital. It was a beautiful healing, and I accepted it so casually.
Several years later when I finally accepted Christian Science as a way of life, I fully realized what this woman had done for me, and what a profound effect she had had on my life. I then resolved, when I taught Sunday School, to treat all the pupils who came to my class with the same steadfast love she had always shown me.
