Today's biggest demand
"Metaphysical healing, or Christian Science, is a demand of the times," says Mrs. Eddy (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 232).
Christian Scientists consider it a privilege to support The Mother Church in meeting this demand. One way they show their support is through regular contributions to the funds which supply the vital worldwide activities of The Mother Church and The Christian Science Publishing Society.
Many Mother Church members, when they make their yearly per capita tax payment, also include contributions to other funds. But support is needed on a regular basis, too. Contributions are welcome anytime during the year for the following:
General Purpose Fund
Fund for The Christian Science Monitor
Charitable Institutions Fund
Relief Fund
Fund for Developing Areas
More than ever does The Mother Church's forward momentum need the steadfast commitment—spiritual and financial—of each member.

Membership in The Mother Church
Why do Christian Scientists join The Mother Church?
Often it's out of gratitude for the practical, healing insights and transformed lives they've found through their study of Christian Science. Or it may be a desire to join with others the world over who are committed to understanding the truths of Christian Science more clearly and living them more fully.
The decision to become a member of The Mother Church is one that speaks of conviction, appreciation, and eagerness to take part in a great healing movement.
And the member is benefited, too. Mother Church membership supports him in his stand for Christian Science in a way that nothing else can.
Consider joining. You may obtain an application form from any Christian Science Reading Room, branch church or society, from a Mother Church member you know, or from a Christian Science practitioner listed in the Directory at the back of this journal. You may also write directly to the Clerk of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Christian Science Center, Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115.
For admission in November, applications should reach Boston by October 1; for admission in June, applications should be received by May 1.
Armed Services Activities
The ministry of Christian Science Activities for Armed Services Personnel reaches around the world. It benefits men and women in the armed forces of many different countries by providing regular Christian Science services, Christian Science treatment, and other assistance.
The Mother Church will gladly furnish information about these activities—plus a directory of Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives in Africa, Asia, Australia, the British Isles, Canada, Europe, the United States, and other countries.
Service personnel or their families are asked to send names and addresses of Christian Scientists in the armed forces to:
The First Church of Christ, Scientist
Christian Science Activities
for Armed Services Personnel
Christian Science Center
Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115
Promptly reporting changes of military address will help this office be of greatest service.
And Christian Scientists are encouraged to register as Christian Scientists, rather than under the general term "Protestant." In the armed forces of several countries they may have the words "Christian Science" or a meaningful abbreviation stamped on their identification tags.
Service personnel may obtain information about Christian Science activities at military installations from the Chaplain's office at each installation, or by writing direct to The Mother Church at the above address.
To find a care facility
No need to be at a loss in finding a care facility for Christian Scientists. The Christian Science Board of Directors has provided several avenues for obtaining this information.
The Department of Care accredits sanatoriums, nursing homes, rest homes, and homes providing special attention—each with nursing care available—when they have met the standards for nursing care established by the Board of Directors.
Information on these care facilities is available from:
—Christian Science Reading Rooms (addresses only)
—Clerks of branch churches or societies (addresses and rates)
—The chairman of a branch church committee for care (addresses, rates, and services)
—And (usually) a local telephone directory (addresses only).
Often a committee for care might also be helpful in learning about unaccredited care facilities for Christian Scientists.
And, of course, the Department of Care of The Mother Church is happy to answer inquiries about nursing care for Christian Scientists.
Planning a trip to Boston?
You may wish to include visits to two of Mary Baker Eddy's former homes:
1908-1910 CHESTNUT HILL, MASSACHUSETTS—At 400 Beacon Street,
Mrs. Eddy's home when she founded The Christian Science Monitor. An exhibit traces her role as Founder and Leader of our movement—preaching, teaching, writing, and commenting on issues still current.
Open May 1 through October 31, 10 to 5 weekdays (including Saturdays), 2 to 5 Sundays; November 1 through April 30, 10 to 4 Saturdays only, 2 to 5 Sundays; closed all holidays except Memorial Day (last Monday in May) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17).
1875-1882 LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS—At 12 Broad Street, where Mrs. Eddy completed her manuscript for Science and Health. It was while living here that Mrs. Eddy initiated many foundational steps in establishing the Christian Science movement. These include the formation of the Christian Scientist Association; the Church of Christ, Scientist; the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Here also Mrs. Eddy was ordained as Pastor of her Church.
The map "Mary Baker Eddy and New England" gives further information on these and other historical sites, all within a day's drive of Boston. This map is available at the historical houses, at the information desk in the Publishing Society, and also by mail from the Archivist of The Mother Church.
Tours of the Church Center
Visitors to the Christian Science Center may take guided tours of the Extension and the Original Edifice, the Sunday School building, and the Publishing House.
Regular tours of The Mother Church are offered daily including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (on Thanksgiving Day tours are from 12 to 1 in The Mother Church only; on December 24, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day there will be no tours). Tours of the Christian Science Publishing House are conducted Monday through Friday. The Mapparium in the Publishing House is also open Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (except Thanksgiving, December 24, Christmas, and New Year's Day). Tours of the Church Administration building are given Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. (except holidays).
Christian Scientists and their families visiting the Church Center are encouraged to make the Visitors' Tour Center in the Publishing House their first stop. The hostess there can provide you with up-to-the-minute tour schedules, information that may not have been published yet in the journal, access to areas that may not be open to the general public, translators if needed, and make arrangements for tours for those needing special consideration.

An invitation from the Editors
Perhaps you have an idea you would like to develop for use in the periodicals. Or a healing experience you would like to share. We would be happy to consider it.
Those who write articles and poems for the journal, Sentinel, and Herald—as well as shorter religious articles for The Home Forum page of the Monitor—must be members of The Mother Church. You need not be a member, however, to submit a testimony of healing in Christian Science. Testimonies are welcomed from members as well as from those who haven't yet joined The Mother Church.
Specific, detailed guidelines are contained in our pamphlet, Guide to Writing for the Periodicals. If you would like a copy, please write to:
The Christian Science Publishing Society
Journal, Sentinel, and Herald
Editorial Department
One Norway Street
Boston, MA, U.S.A. 02115
If your interest or talent is in writing poetry, you will find helpful pointers in the leaflet "Interested in Writing a Poem for the Periodicals?" Please request this leaflet specifically, as it isn't automatically included with Guide to Writing for the Periodicals.
All contributions accepted for publication become the sole property of The Christian Science Publishing Society.
News for Church in Action
Inspired, prayer-based church activity heals. It proves Christian Science. And news of what it accomplishes deserves to be shared, so others can benefit.
When your branch church, society, or college organization is experiencing good healing at its services, when your Sunday School is an exciting place to be, when your Reading Room is especially active, when your church committees are finding new, more effective ways to embrace the community, this is church in action. And we'd like to know about it—how you make it happen. News from overseas branches is particularly welcome.
We aren't necessarily asking for a complete report (although that's fine if you want to make one), just a concise summary of the activity—including its healing effect. This will give an idea of its potential as a Church in Action story. Then we can follow up if we need further details.
Please send your report to:

Information on nurses training
Would you like to know more about Christian Science nurses training—what it consists of, what courses are taught, how long it takes?
This information is available now in Christian Science Reading Rooms. Ask to see the catalog titled "Christian Science Nursing: A Career and a Mission." It's available on request for reference only.
Testimony meetings
Many first-time visitors to a Wednesday evening meeting have come away inspired to look more deeply into Christian Science. These one-hour meetings held each week in all Christian Science churches include testimonies by those who have been healed through Christian Science. The church nearest you would like to welcome you. You can check the Directory in the back of this Journal for exact times and locations of all church services.
