Testimonies of Healing

The "Testimonies of Christian Science Healing"...

From the December 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The "Testimonies of Christian Science Healing" section in The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel is like an unlimited fund to which all may turn in time of need. I have had help from this source so often that now I would like to add my small contribution.

When I was a child, my mother was introduced to Christian Science by a sister. My mother had had X rays and was due to be operated on for the removal of a stone. After she had treatment through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner, the stone was eliminated naturally without need for surgery.

My first healing was of measles. My mother called the same practitioner, and although I do not remember what she said to me, I do recall that I had only one day in bed and only two days away from school. Shortly after this healing I began attending the Christian Science Sunday School.

When I was twelve or thirteen years old, I had an instantaneous healing. While experimenting with frying in deep fat, I put my hand too low in the saucepan and touched the hot oil with the tips of some fingers. I remembered how clearly my Sunday School teacher had brought home the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 161): "You say, 'I have burned my finger.' This is an exact statement, more exact than you suppose; for mortal mind, and not matter, burns it." The pain stopped at once. This healing has helped me many times over the years.

Several years ago I needed to find new accommodations after sharing a friend's flat for several months while looking for a permanent home. Relatives of hers had come from abroad and the room was now needed for them. Normal steps were taken to find a new place, but with no satisfactory result. Treatment was sought from a practitioner, as I wanted to work this out through reliance on God. I had become disturbed by the fact that I was beginning to be in my friend's way.

One day it came to me that I was really grateful for the kindness and generosity that had been shown to me and that the harmonious relationship could not be undermined because it was now the turn of others to share her home. I saw clearly that it is a law of God that good is not repaid by evil and that I could not and would not want to reverse this law.

I felt so assured by this that I knew I could not cause this friend any inconvenience. I made arrangements to move within seven days without knowing where I would go. Through another friend I found a place to stay for just one month. Before that month was up a permanent home was offered to me at the same address, and I have been here for the last thirteen years. The arrangements had gone so smoothly it seemed a miracle, and indeed it was a miracle according to the definition given in Science and Health on page 591, a part of which reads: "Miracle. That which is divinely natural, but must be learned humanly."

I am grateful to God for these and many other healings I have had. For Mrs. Eddy's devotion to the purpose of revealing this practical application of Christ Jesus' teachings; for the practitioners who unselfishly help us; and for all the provisions made for our own progress, from Sunday School to class instruction with its continuing unfoldment of the yearly association meeting, I am increasingly grateful.
