PSALM OF PETITION

From the August 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Listen, God,
what are we going to do?
Everything has become so complicated!

We need to know You
as mightier than every sovereign power,
stronger than any nuclear thrust,
more abundant than any human dole.

Although there are no big wars,
giant nations
glare at each other
behind the battle lines of smaller neighbors.
Although there are missile talks,
weapons of annihilation
go right on stockpiling
around the globe.
Although there are harvests,
children wilt
and starve.

Put some sense into us!
Show us how to gain a wider home,
how to build,
work,
distribute, and share
as members together in Christ—in Truth—
a single world,
unified in honoring,
praising,
glorifying You.
