Over the years the study of Christian Science has been my primary source of enrichment, satisfaction, healing, and guidance. The power of God's Word has been particularly helpful to me on many occasions in solving acute problems of human relationships during an active military career.
Some years ago I went through a period of fear and anxiety. The physical ailment was not diagnosed medically, but the main symptom was loss of consciousness. The first instance occurred during the inspection of a military facility under my management. My superior officer ordered me taken to the base hospital. I had regained consciousness, and en route I prayed for myself, declaring silently that I was in God's care and all was well. The physician's examination revealed nothing, but I was directed to take two days of complete rest. During this time I prayed and studied, using the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and I was able to return to my duties.
However, the illness did not yield completely at that time. I would frequently have attacks, and it was only with vigorous denials of evil and affirmations of God's presence that I was able to retain consciousness at these times. These attacks alerted me to the need for more consistent prayer, and I secured the help of a Christian Science practitioner. Together we prayed for healing for several months. Many wonderful truths were learned and pondered during this time. At one point the practitioner brought out that this was an attempted attack on my individuality. I came to realize more clearly that individuality is completely incorporeal, and that man has no consciousness of his own, separate from God, but reflects the Mind that is God.
