What is healed? What is demonstrated?

From the January 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Would we attempt to demonstrate mortal mind, disease, or the body? Would we expect to heal the divine Principle, the Christ, or the one Mind? Yet demonstration and healing are clearly related, as Jesus established during his three years of healing and demonstrating. Mrs. Eddy notes, "His purpose in healing was not alone to restore health, but to demonstrate his divine Principle." Science and Health, p. 51;

From the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we learn that God's allness makes nothing of His opposites— sin, disease, death, all evil. When the divine fact of God's allness is grasped and accepted in human consciousness, the opposites fade, good is seen, and healing results. The Psalmist sang, "He sent his word, and healed them." Ps. 107:20; In such a case the perfection and power of Almighty God are being demonstrated, and the resulting healing is proof.

When we demonstrate Truth, it heals us; but the healing is only part of the demonstration—or, more accurately, it is the effect in our experience of the demonstration. The healing doesn't bring the demonstration. Rather the demonstration brings the healing. They can occur simultaneously, but the cause of the healing is always the demonstration of the divine Principle.
