With her acknowledgment that God is the divine Mother, Mrs. Eddy has completed the age-old concept of God as Father, immeasurably blessing mankind. Her recognition of this truth has broken down religious limitations resulting from a one-sided conception of God and at the same time has lifted the concept of womanhood. It has opened the way for every man and woman to find his or her infinite, divine Mother.
In what is called the Christian Science Platform Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health, "Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which indicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation." Science and Health, p. 332; This divine Father and Mother is Love, as John declares in his First Epistle.
But only if we acknowledge the motherhood of God in its full meaning will we be in a position to understand God as Love, because the divine mother love is an essential quality of God, Love. Science and Health says: "'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go." ibid., p. 6;
