They elected me to read at the college organization?

From the January 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This was the surprised reaction of a college friend of mine when she was elected to read for the organization. She couldn't believe it! Maybe it has happened to you. Although my friend enjoyed attending the organization meetings regularly and felt she was a working Christian Scientist, she still couldn't believe the members wanted her to read!

But most of all she didn't know where to begin. She turned to the textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and found this passage: "God selects for the highest service one who has grown into such a fitness for it as renders any abuse of the mission an impossibility." Science and Health, p. 455; Then, she had even more to live up to; she must never abuse the responsibility of reading in the organization! Prayer and many practical steps were necessary before she was ready to begin.

New Readers are elected at regular intervals on college campuses every year, and among the questions they often ask are these.
