I am grateful to have been brought up...

From the June 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am grateful to have been brought up by parents who were Christian Scientists. One of the earliest healings I remember occurred when I was about six. It was that of poison ivy. My mother called a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I understood that God would heal me, which He did. When I was in my teens, I began using this Science for myself. Since then I have had many healings, some through my own prayer and others with the help of a practitioner.

Fifteen years ago I became deaf in one ear. I prayed about this sporadically, but because the hearing in my other ear was acute, the condition hardly bothered me. The following year, at my Christian Science Students Association meeting, it was brought out that we should not put up with an error, even if it doesn't bother us, but we should strive to express God's perfection in all ways. After that I asked a practitioner to help me overcome the deafness. And it wasn't long before I was free of this condition.

A year later I took a scuba-diving course. At each lesson we spent two hours in a swimming pool. During the first session my ear became deaf again, and the next day I had a severe earache. I wrote the practitioner for help again, and the deafness disappeared the day he received my request. However, during the next few weeks the hearing would disappear in that ear while I was swimming and return the next day.
