Every square centimeter seemed to be filled with warmth and joy in the Sunday School room of the metropolitan Baptist Church in the coastal Canadian city, as Christians, Hindus, Jews, and Muslims mingled and conversed. It was Brotherhood Week, and the members of an interfaith council had gathered to bestow the Good Servant Medal on one of the city's outstanding humanitarians. After the long list of accomplishments had been read, someone commented that it was almost inconceivable that one individual had done so much in only eighty years. How did he do it?
Some might wonder: How did Christ Jesus complete the tremendous achievements of his three-year ministry? For John closes his Gospel with this provocative statement: "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written." John 21:25;
How could our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, give up family, friends, social activity, and devote herself to writing a book, Science and Health, which boldly contradicted widely held medical, religious, and scientific theories? How could she then go on to establish a Church and bring to mankind the Science of such depth that individuals who have studied it since childhood feel they have just begun to glimpse its infinite potential? How could she do this? In Science and Health she says, "Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind."
