A healing of excessive drinking in our...

From the February 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A healing of excessive drinking in our family took place years ago when I put everything in God's hands and quit worrying. My husband always cared a great deal for his family. He helped me raise the children and worked regularly to provide for all our daily necessities. But his drinking disturbed me so much that at one point I wanted to put our sons in the car and head for my sister's home over a thousand miles away.

First I visited a Christian Science practitioner, the only person I felt I could really talk to. She had prayed for the children from time to time when they were ill. Now I went to her for legal advice, which she did not give me. Instead, she gave me Christian Science treatment, assuring me that through trust in God the difficulty could be lifted from our family. I was asked to consider the verbal contract I had made in taking the marriage vows, an agreement that could be likened to embarking on a partnership. The practitioner also encouraged me not to dwell on what I, myself, should do. Her prayer affirmed that God is the supplier of all good to His children.

The very next day I was called to work part time, and I worked steadily for many months. Thus our financial needs were met. My husband's healing of drinking took place shortly after my talk with the practitioner.
