One way Christian Scientists contribute to their communities is by providing lectures, open to the public, by members of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. And this motivation to share can bring individual, spiritual growth, as a member of a Christian Science Society in South West Africa related:
"In our country there are diverse races and cultures. Because we were conscious of differences and ascribing certain values to them, we seemed to be locked into deteriorating relationship problems.
"Our little Christian Science Society decided to reach out to the community in offering our forthcoming lecture. Our lecture preparation meetings were simply inspiring as we demolished within our own thinking the hedges and walls that stood between us humanly. We began to see only God's man in His image and likeness and thus to reach out to the community spiritually. There was no further contest; a great weight of false, human, and sometimes—speaking about our own biased point of view—selfish and convenient concepts about our fellowman just fell away."
