A new dimension

From the February 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the promised Comforter as divine Science revealed a transcendent new dimension to the teachings of Christ Jesus. After centuries of creed and doctrine, Christianity, through Mrs. Eddy's work, has been given the Science that provides the understanding and demonstration of Christ. History has shown that doctrine is not enough to reconcile humanity to God. A deeper understanding of the Christ is needed to do this.

For many centuries the teachings of Christ Jesus have been revered, loved, pondered, and debated; but in the discovery of Christian Science the Christ was further exalted as our timeless Saviour. Prophecy was fulfilled; the promised Comforter appeared, not as the reappearance of Jesus but as Science to be understood and demonstrated.

The problem of trying to reconcile the concept of man made in God's image to the enigma of fallen man was resolved by the understanding of God as divine Spirit, creating man in His own likeness, and the discovery of the illusory, unreal nature of evil. The allegory of Adam and Eve in the Bible was seen in symbolic contrast to spiritual reality, and its deeper implications could be understood.
