Your development program

From the February 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Just as the reflection in a mirror is obedient to the original, so man, God's reflection, is inseparable from the infinite good of his creator. This is the spiritual basis for mankind's progress.

We each have a God-ordained program of development. As children of God we are each living in obedience to His law of unceasing good.

From a human viewpoint, though, development often seems to be a mixture of the good and the not so good—the variable and uncertain. Development, so seen, can include growing from small to big, from young to old, from weak to strong, from materiality to eventual spirituality. This outlook may leave us dependent on heredity, environment, economics, or physiology. It would also seem as if promising advances could be halted or reversed.
