Testimonies of Healing

As a new student of Christian Science, I...

From the July 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As a new student of Christian Science, I turned to this teaching in an extremity, at a time when I could no longer see a reason to live. And through Christian Science I learned that this extremity was not to be the end of my life, but instead marked a beginning.

It all started after a serious auto accident involving fatalities. I woke up in a hospital bed suffering from injuries that included broken bones and a fractured skull. I was also overcome with grief. The doctors had decided to wait a few days before performing surgery to set the various broken bones. After two days, more X-rays were taken and it was noted that the bones were beginning to mend. In order to immobilize the breaks, I was given padding for my arms. Then I went home to the care of my family.

I was taking painkilling drugs and feeling very miserable. When I'd been home for a few days, in the middle of one night I considered ending it all by taking the entire bottle of pain pills. But I stopped and thought that first I would try Christian Science. In the morning I called a Christian Science practitioner I'd earlier talked with briefly. He encouraged me to study Science and said that I could have treatment through prayer if I chose to rely solely on Science, utilizing no medicine. I gave up all medication and asked the practitioner for help. Over a period of six weeks, the broken bones, fractured skull, and other injuries gradually and steadily healed through prayer alone. I found that as less thought was given to the body, it began to resume normal functions.
