The certainty of Christian Science

From the October 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Success in our practice of Christian Science depends largely on our certainty that it is absolute truth. How do we gain this certainty, an assurance that's exempt from all doubt? Through the recognition that we are studying and practicing an infallible, divine Science. Our confidence is not in ourselves as students who are learning to demonstrate this truth step by step. Our conviction rests in the unerring Principle of Science.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, didn't invent this Science. She discovered the divine Science that has always existed, or rather coexisted with God. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures she tells us: "Science is an emanation of divine Mind, and is alone able to interpret God aright. It has a spiritual, and not a material origin. It is a divine utterance,—the Comforter which leadeth into all truth."Science and Health, p. 127.

The certainty of Christian Science inheres in the fact that it is the absolute truth of God and man presented in the inspired Word of the Scriptures. This Science affirms and confirms the teachings of the master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, and of the God-inspired patriarchs, prophets, and apostles. The same certainty of Truth demonstrated in their healing works is our basis as Christian healers today.
