"Love looseth thee"

From the October 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mankind's crying need for freedom from enslavement of every sort has never been more pressing. Accordingly, it is of primary importance to understand the liberating nature of divine Love. In one of Mrs. Eddy's poems, set to music in the Christian Science Hymnal, we read:

Love looseth thee, and lifteth me,
Ayont hate's thrall:
There Life is light, and wisdom might,
And God is All.Hymnal, No. 160.

The capitalized word "Love" is synonymous in Christian Science with God and means the Divine Being that includes all power, cause, effect, and law. Love is a liberating force; it releases, uplifts, frees. Mrs. Eddy writes of Love: "What a word! I am in awe before it. Over what worlds on worlds it hath range and is sovereign! the underived, the incomparable, the infinite All of good, the alone God, is Love."Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 249-250.
