Business underpinned by Truth

From the July 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Regardless of how difficult economic conditions appear to be today, there is a way out. Time after time, the false beliefs of economic upheaval and individual financial distress have been eliminated for individuals who turned to God and prayerfully acknowledged His ever-presence and unfailing control.

The Old Testament tells us that the Hebrews, fleeing Egyptian persecution, seemed to be facing unbearable economic and cultural hardships. Yet Moses, by turning to God for guidance in each crisis, was able to demonstrate the powerlessness of evil and the immediacy of God's care in daily life. Mrs. Eddy describes this action in a letter to one of the early branch Churches of Christ, Scientist: "When God went forth before His people, they were fed with manna: they marched through the wilderness: they passed through the Red Sea, untouched by the billows. At His command, the rock became a fountain; and the land of promise, green isles of refreshment." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 153.

God's command is law to the situation simply because God's allness allows neither place nor opportunity for any action external to or contrary to this allness. Instead of mortal mind's concept of finances, with its beliefs of insufficiency, insolvency, dislocations, delays, manipulations, dishonesty, and limits of all kinds, there is only the one true concept, based entirely in Spirit, which operates with changeless, inexhaustible, divine substance. This substance constitutes God's ever-present, ever-active supply for His idea, man.
