Christian Science healing: immediate, complete, permanent

From the July 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We can and should expect immediate, complete, and permanent healing in Christian Science. Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, states forthrightly: '"The remedial power of Christian Science is positive, and its application direct. It cannot fail to heal in every case of disease, when conducted by one who understands this Science sufficiently to demonstrate its highest possibilities." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 44.

If we are not getting such healing results, we can ask ourselves: Are my expectations based on human hopes or on a clear perception that good is a basic fact of my true, spiritual nature and therefore inevitably must appear in my experience? The prophet Habakkuk says of God, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." Hab. 1:13. Since this is true of God, it is equally true of man as His idea. And we can insist on beholding Truth here and now, as well as full evidence of Truth's healing power.

Time-based thought is apt to reject the concept of immediate healing. The medical profession commonly prescribes recovery periods for disease and injury. Belief in and emphasis on human health history often raise doubt about a patient's readiness to perceive and receive the healing truth. Such prognoses and beliefs, based as they are on a misconception of man's true, spiritual identity, are without a genuine foundation. They are, in fact, false and hence powerless of themselves. It is only our unquestioning acceptance of them that gives them their seeming ability to control our experience.
