My interest in Science began as a result of my reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, at a time when I was working as a registered nurse in a children's hospital. I was soon to see the healing power of the truth the book teaches proved in my experience. Our infant son and I were involved in an automobile accident that resulted in our being thrown our of the car. The baby sustained a severe concussion and fracture of the skull bone, and one of my pelvic bones was fractured in three places.
In the emergency room of the hospital we had been taken to, I saw the difficulty the babe appeared to be in and phoned for help from a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner came to the emergency room. Her understanding of the truth of being reassured me. How to apply this truth to the situation, I had not yet learned. But at that point I did know that I wanted Christian Science treatment for both of us more than medical treatment. And that is what I chose to have.
The baby and I were most lovingly and well looked after in the small hospital. (We remained there because there was no one at home to care for us during the day, since my husband had to work.) At my request arrangements were made for us to share a private room so that I could help care for the baby.
