A deep search for true moral and...

A deep search for true moral and Christian values led me to the study of Christian Science through a neighbor—a sincere student of its teachings. I began to study Science out of a sincere desire to leave limitations and slavery to materiality. In a short time, I was healed of an intestinal disturbance that had persisted for years—simply through reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I realized that I had found the truth I'd been seeking. One result was seen in a regeneration of character. These lines from page 63 of our textbook encouraged and sustained me: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry."

Early in my study of Science I was also healed of a serious condition of hemorrhaging, which had brought on a severe state of weakness and depression. Although at that time I was in a hospital, I had a little glimpse of the marvelous truth of Christian Science, so I decided to refuse all medical care and to trust myself without reservation to God. The hospital agreed to this; the staff continued to care for me, but without giving me medication. The healing was gradual, and came about thanks to the power of God.

A painful earache and the deafness which had accompanied it were healed when I understood better, through consecrated study, the following passage in the textbook (p. 465): "Question.—What is God?
