Blessing Sunday School with Christly love and vision

From the March 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus' love for little children was apparent in many ways. Once, when Jesus' disciples rebuked those bringing young children to him for blessing, he replied, "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God."Mark 10:14 .

Christian Science Sunday Schools offer the Christly love for children that the Master taught. The very attraction of Sunday School is the Christ. It is Christly love that draws them to where they can learn more about God and how much He loves them. It is this love that impels the Sunday School teacher to recognize each child as the spiritual creation of God.

A good example of the power of Christly love and vision occurred in a Christian Science Sunday School while I was superintendent. A substitute teacher reported that a seven-year-old boy was disrupting her class with his unbridled energy. The following Sunday, before Sunday School began, I prayed for fresh inspiration on the problem. I reached for Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and it fell open to these lines: "We must look deep into realism instead of accepting only the outward sense of things."Science and Health, p. 129. Opening to another page, I read, "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."Ibid., p. 269 .
