"Siege mentality" or scientific defense?

From the March 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A short time ago two Christian Scientists who care deeply about the Christian Science movement were talking about the challenges it is now facing. One of them commented on how a number of fellow church members had observed that in recent months especially they had felt "besieged" by error.

Perhaps the reason they felt besieged, the other Scientist said, was because they were besieged.

In view of materialistic opposition to spirituality today, as well as the numerous vocal criticisms of Christian Science now being circulated, this may have been a realistic human appraisal. But as the two friends discussed the matter, the need to go further became clear. What was needed was the deeper spiritual realism found in the works of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
