Picture a piece of sheet music, slightly worn, slightly yellowed with age. It had been suggested to a young musician that she play the music on her piano and sing the words. Well, she enjoyed playing the music and she loved the words. But she never sang them. She thought her voice was not good enough to be heard by others, not even her family. That musician was me, and thirty-seven years later I found myself singing that song as the soloist in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.
How did this change, which took place fairly recently, come about? It came as a result of my study of Christian Science, which expanded my understanding of God's allness and man's completeness as His individual expression. It also came through my efforts to live the divine nature so beautifully manifested by the Way-shower, Christ Jesus.
When we ponder spiritual ideas, listening for their clarification and amplification in our thoughts, inspiration from Spirit does indeed come to us. This spiritual inspiration increasingly harmonizes every aspect of our lives and allows our talents and abilities to surface. As we recognize our true nature as God's complete, perfect expression, we are disinclined to accept suggestions of inadequacy, including beliefs of age and limited ability.
