Testimonies of Healing

As I sat in my branch Church of Christ...

From the February 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As I sat in my branch Church of Christ, Scientist, during the Thanksgiving Day service in 1985, I prayed in these words from Pulpit and Press by Mrs. Eddy (p. 10): "Divine presence, breathe Thou Thy blessing on every heart in this house." With that desire came a feeling of being loved and cared for by our heavenly Father. It is with a sense of humble rejoicing that I submit this testimony, thankful for God's care and protection and for an ever-growing awareness of His omnipotence.

Over thirty years ago, when I was about three months pregnant with our second child, my water broke. This happened during the night, and I became very afraid. But I spent the next several hours in prayer, consciously affirming God's presence and control, and this freed me from fear. In the morning I requested prayerful support from a Christian Science practitioner, which was gladly given.

The days before this happened I had been helping my husband with a landscaping project that needed to be finished before he left for an overseas assignment. As I prayed I realized that I felt a sense of resentment toward my husband for his not protesting the heavy work I had been doing. The practitioner's prayers helped me see that man, my true nature, is not a frail mortal, subject to material conditions. This calmed my fear and enabled me to let go of all resentment toward my husband.
