My heart is filled with gratitude for the encouragement and inspiration I have received over the years from those who have so thoughtfully and generously shared their experiences through testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals. I'm happy to add my written testimony to those of countless thousands who have recorded how they have been helped and healed by the Word of God, as understood in Christian Science.
My parents became interested in Science when my brother and I were young. We attended a Christian Science Sunday School for a number of years and accepted the teachings of Science willingly and happily. Our home was a very harmonious one. As our family grew in the study of Science, we were able to prove its practicality in more and more areas of our lives. The few physical distresses we had were quickly healed. Through the understanding of God's unlimited resources, our needs were always met.
Though one is brought up in Christian Science, there inevitably comes a time to decide, within the depths of one's own heart, whether or not to embrace it wholeheartedly. Such a time came in my life when, not long after my graduation from college, my dad passed away very suddenly. Though comforted and sustained through Science at the time, after a while I had doubts. Questions started coming to me: Why did this happen? How could this happen to a man so good, so young, so devoted to serving God? Does chance rule us rather than law?
