I feel privileged to have been raised in...

From the April 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I feel privileged to have been raised in Christian Science. Its simple logic is scientific and precise; its inspired teaching is alive with compassion and hope. I find Science to be of great help in everyday affairs. Once a three-pronged fishhook was painlessly released from my face. I've also been healed of a skin disease, plantar warts, and colds.

One Saturday morning I woke with what seemed to be a minor neck problem. I more or less ignored it over the next few days. But the pain increased and so did the stiffness. At work it became very obvious to others that I had a physical problem. Advice was given me as to painkillers that were appropriate, and someone said I ought to go to a hospital. Tuesday I left work early for home.

I could no longer pretend that there was not a problem. There was, and it needed to be dealt with. But first I had to make a choice: metaphysics or physics. Having been raised a Christian Scientist, I knew the course I would take. Explaining that Christian Science healing reveals the antidote for sin and sickness to be in God, Mrs. Eddy writes in Miscellaneous Writings (p. 255): "It is more effectual than drugs, and cures where they fail, because it is this divine antidote, and metaphysics is above physics." I could rely on this, trust in God. I was determined to put these teachings into practice.
