In church

From the April 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

These walls
extend
to encompass the world.

Words of truth
build up around us,
and on granite foundations
we stand firm—
seeing through
limitation
to the creation of God.

An inspiration
higher
than any spire
illuminates life
without beginning or ending,
filling with psalms
of gratitude
every open palm.

I knew oneness
and wholeness there—the lifting of the Christ—
and the deep, ever-going goodness of Love.
I never wanted to leave. . . .
And suddenly, I realized
I never could.
