A healing trinity

From the April 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Trinitarian views often differ among Christians, but it is a central issue in much theological study. One day I decided to see if a deeper understanding of the trinity would help me fulfill the command of our Master, Christ Jesus, to heal the sick in his name.

In the Scriptures one learns that God is almighty, that He is Spirit, good, and the healer of diseases. The Gospels proclaim Christ Jesus as the promised Messiah, the way of salvation. The book of John quotes Jesus' promise of the Comforter, which would teach us all things.

Jesus declared himself one with the Father, and he spoke of the Comforter, too, as proceeding from the Father.John 10:30; 15:26. His words in John 14 reveal a unity of Father, Son, and Comforter: "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." John 14:16-18.
