I was thinking recently of how grateful I am for Christian Science—for all it has meant to me and my family—and I decided it was time to send in a testimony to the periodicals.
My mother came into Christian Science before I was born, so God has been my only physician, the one guide and preserver of my life. I have been healed of so-called childhood diseases, including measles, mumps, and smallpox, through this Science. I have been both shielded from accidents and protected in them. Christian Science has been my wife's guide and mine in raising our boys, in making decisions about home, family, and business.
Some years ago my wife and I were traveling to a city fifty miles from our home to visit friends. We were about fifteen miles from our destination when we, along with the car ahead of us, stopped for traffic coming from the opposite direction. Suddenly I glanced in my rearview mirror and saw a car approaching from the rear at high speed. In an instant I prayed, "There are no accidents in God's kingdom." The driver of the approaching car applied his brakes too late. His car struck ours with such force that it broke our gas tank loose from its fastenings and drove us into the car in front, slamming our radiator back into the motor and smashing the rear end of the car ahead.
