Looking back over the many years during which my husband and I raised a family of six children, I realize what a blessing it was to have had the benefits of Christian Science in our home. While we indeed saw many demonstrations of Christian healing, the experiences of illness or injury were remarkably small. I am sincerely convinced that parents who pray daily for the well-being of their children and themselves, with a clear realization of the ever-presence of God as the source of good, have an enlarged sense of order, supply, safety, love, health, and so on. Christian Scientists have for years been demonstrating the preventative, as well as the curative, aspects of prayer.
I am grateful for the Christian Science practitioners who responded immediately to our occasional calls for help. When one of our boys was nine, he was overcome one day by an extreme fever. I told him that I was going to call a Christian Science practitioner for help and that I wanted him to be there with me when I called so that he too could hear about God.
The practitioner spoke with me and then asked to speak to my son. After I put the phone to my son's ear, he became peaceful and relaxed. As he listened to what was an outpouring of love and reassurance of God's loving care, he was instantly healed.
