About three years ago, the nail of one of my big toes became ingrown. The condition was painful and affected the whole top of the toe. For a while I had only one pair of shoes I could wear comfortably. I chose to work out the problem in Christian Science, relying on its purely spiritual ways and means for the healing I needed.
Long previous experience had convinced me that if a difficult situation is not thoroughly dealt with spiritually, it is never completely corrected. I recognized, furthermore, that, uncomfortable as I might be, my discomfort was, in effect, urging me to learn more of my true, spiritual identity as a child of God. I didn't want to miss this opportunity.
I endeavored to know that in my real being as a spiritual idea of God, I could not be impinged upon by material belief. As I went about my various duties, I sang to myself the words of Hymn 139 in the Christian Science Hymnal, which begins, "I walk with Love along the way ..." Every time I took a step, I was grateful for being able to do so. I also prayed to God for enlightenment to perceive and reverse with truth any subtle, erroneous thinking on my part. For a while I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer, and she responded with aid that was quick, loving, and effective.
