I would like to express my deep gratitude for two experiences that were milestones in my progress in Christian Science.
The first occurred when I was in boot camp during the Second World War. Though at the time I was still a member of a church of another denomination, for several months prior to going into the Navy I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School in The Mother Church in Boston. Therefore when I was inducted into the service, I identified myself with Christian Science. I knew that if anything happened to me, I would want prayerful help in Science.
In boot camp I met a Christian Scientist and told him of my interest in Science. Later, when I found myself in sick bay with scarlet fever (an epidemic of this disease was going through the camp at the time), the Scientist I had met sent a Christian Scientist who was a Navy chaplain to see me.
