Christian Science has been so helpful to me in all areas of my life. As a child, I was troubled with a skin condition called eczema. This difficulty persisted, and when I was a young adult it became extremely troublesome. At one point, the condition seemed to be all over my body instead of just my arms and legs, as had been the earlier. Even though I had been raised in Christian Science, it was not until this point that I decided to turn to Christian Science for healing. I felt that Science had the answer I needed for this situation.
I went to a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. I do not remember what she told me, but after leaving her office, I began some serious self-examination. I was almost startled to realize how easily irritated and annoyed I could become over little things. I saw the need on my part to become more patient, kind, and loving to other people instead of being critical. After several months of persistent effort to change in this way, I realized one day that the skin trouble had disappeared. This healing took place over twenty years ago, and the skin condition has never returned.
Since this healing and the consequent decision to make Christian Science my way of life, there have been many opportunities to experience the healing power of Christ. One hot summer day when our son was small, he spent some happy hours splashing around in a small plastic swimming pool. That evening he started crying. He was suffering from sunburn that had not been apparent earlier. I comforted him and called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support. The clear statements of truth she shared with me freed me from fear and the guilt that I felt for letting him play in the sun for so long. The child quickly went to sleep, and the next morning he woke happy and free of any sunburn.
