My most precious gifts have been the love of God and the awareness of Him that my parents first nurtured in me and that my study of Christian Science has more fully unfolded. I began to study Christian Science as a young woman. At first I found many of the spiritual concepts difficult to accept. But I found comfort and had some convincing healings—of infected eyes, overnight; of blood poisoning, within an hour or two; of broken bones and troubled human relationships; of financial lack; and of colds, burns, and sprains.
One healing among the many stands out: that of a sore on my nose. It was apparent for quite a long time. I was frightened when I saw it increase in size; but I prayed to overcome the fear, which lessened.
During this time I was serving on the Christian Science Committee for Institutional Work in California. This committee of dedicated Christian Scientists appointed by their respective branch churches met quarterly for two or three days. Those sessions were long but spiritually uplifting. Despite many difficult problems to solve, we consistently looked to divine Love as the only Mind and the basis of our work.
