From the October 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One day while I was riding my bicycle I was hit by a car and hurled onto the pavement. Admission to a hospital by ambulance was carried out against my wishes, since I physically had no strength to resist. But my thoughts were drawn to the strength of God, Mind—His omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence. I knew man to be forever at one with God, as His spiritual child, safe and secure in His loving arms.

Earlier I had given much thought to this passage in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.' " Now I felt deep gratitude as I realized that nothing is impossible to our Father-Mother God.

The X-rays showed a fracture at the base of the skull, a fracture of a shoulder blade, a broken arm, a broken collarbone, and an injured lumbar vertebra. When I said that I wished to go home, the physician replied that in view of the severe head injury, I could not decide for myself and that she was in charge of the case. She said that I had to lie still for about three weeks, then some operations would be performed. She added that there would be no thought of leaving the hospital for at least three months. While this was being said I silently affirmed that God, Mind, is All-in-all; gave thanks; and acknowledged God as my sole physician.
