You, your community, and the message of Christian Science

(part one)

From the October 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

They may not be the most dynamic words in the English language: literature distribution. But words, like looks, can deceive! Or at least fall short of expressing the full import of what this activity really means to humanity.

For decades individuals and branch church literature distribution committees have shared Christian Science literature with others. It's time to look with fresh eyes at this utterly crucial means of sharing practical Christianity with a hungering world.

Looking with fresh eyes is what one branch church did. And over a four-year period the church's literature distribution activity grew from three members and a small handful of locations where literature was offered, to over thirty members delivering literature to more than 150 locations in their seaside community. As they explained in a recent Christian Science Sentinel item, "In 1987 our committee realized we had to go further in bringing the message of Christian Science to our community and that the literature distribution committee had a role to play. But the question was, How? We began with prayer .... We sought a deeper and more active understanding of [this] work, and to trust truly in God to direct our actions."
