Each Lesson-Sermon published in the Christian Science Quarterly—Bible Lessons is designed to be complete in itself. Its Bible references (King James Version) are corroborated and explained by passages from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These Bible Notes are offered by The Christian Science Journal as indications of the possibilities for individual research.
Cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins...: then...I shall be innocent from the great transgression (Ps. 19:12,13) These "secret faults" seem in this context to be unwitting offenses; while "presumptuous" refers to what is willfully arrogant. No special "great transgression" is indicated by the Hebrew text.
The New English Bible (NEB) translates: "Hold back thy servant also from sins of self-will, lest they get the better of me. Then I shall be blameless and innocent of any great transgression."
