Primary class instruction: a preparation of the heart

From the April 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It has never been clearer; the world needs our prayer, our dedicated lives, and our healing work. How can we prepare ourselves to make a difference?

The Scriptures emphasize spiritual readiness: "The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord." Prov. 16:1. This promise seems especially appealing if we are earnestly seeking to demonstrate God's divine law in everyday situations. When we glimpse the tangible reality of God's infinite goodness and all-powerful love, it is natural for us to feel that we would like to make a fuller contribution to the healing of mankind's ills.

Students of Christian Science, when they join the Church of Christ, Scientist, commit themselves in the broadest sense to being those who practice Christianity—that is, they desire to follow Christ Jesus in proving their faith by their works. They realize this divine demand to heal the sick and sinful requires a deep commitment, a preparation of the heart, and the daily regeneration that comes as one draws closer to God and His Christ.
