Testimonies of Healing

"I will extol thee, oh Lord; for thou hast lifted...

From the May 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"I will extol thee, oh Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me" (Psalms).

For the birth of our third child, my husband and I had made plans for the delivery to be at home. When the midwives arrived for the delivery, they discovered that the baby was in breech position and they were unwilling to proceed at home. In fact, they informed us that they felt the delivery would have to be done by Caesarean section as there might be complications that could prove fatal for me or the child.

The midwives gave my husband and me some time to decide what we wanted to do. It is interesting to me that during that time my husband and I never discussed what to do. We spent the time joyously sharing our thoughts on God. One of the passages that I had been thinking about for several weeks was a line from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal: "Love's work and Love must fit." This assured me that God's spiritual creation is complete in every aspect. To me, relying on the fact that God's, Spirit's, creation is spiritual meant that not a single so-called physical law or material expectation had power to obstruct or endanger. I remembered all the many examples of God's power to heal I had seen in my life, and I knew that God is my very Life and I cannot be separated from Him.
