"Ye are the light of the world," Christ Jesus told his followers. Is that how today's Christians see themselves?
Many of us have made a basic commitment to be Christians and to follow him. But how many of us honestly feel that we are that spiritual light? Are we doing for the world what Jesus expected of us when he told us to let our "light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven"?Matt. 5:14, 16 Do we feel that our true spiritual identity as God made it is so illuminated in our daily life that we are helping to heal and save mankind?
Jesus' advent represented the entrance into human understanding of the Christ, man's true spiritual identity. His mission was to teach and demonstrate to mankind that the kingdom of heaven, the government of divine law, is at hand. His whole life expressed spiritual light that comforted and healed, saved and blessed all who turned to him for help. He knew, however, that it was imperative for this light to continue after his departure, so he urged his followers to discover this light, this kingdom of heaven, within themselves and let it shine forth. He intended all his followers to be healers as he was, literally to reflect divine light, to demonstrate divine laws of health, holiness, and harmony, and to be the instruments of salvation for the whole world.
