Healing through willingness to serve church

From the July 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There comes a time, after we've accepted the basic truths of Christian Science and experienced healing through prayer, when deep gratitude wells up, and we yearn to serve the Cause. This upwelling of gratitude is natural, and we find branch churches ready to oblige, for the need is great.

I knew that I couldn't deny or suppress something divinely engendered and that God's purpose couldn't possibly harm me. That was a key inspiration: that because God is divine Love, and 100 percent good, I could only be blessed by doing His will.

What if we pull up short, though, and start second-guessing our enthusiasm? This hesitation is the resistance of the carnal mind to serving the one Cause that guarantees this mind's destruction. If we see the deception clearly, we'll whisk it out of our thinking and allow our pure desires to spring forth freely.
