Letting the Bible reform our lives

From the November 1992 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We call it simply the Bible—or the Good Book. But its spiritual meaning is revolutionary. It turns lives around. It reforms churches and nations. And it is—at this very moment—reforming our world.

Just how does the Bible reform lives? Here's an example. A young man I know made some mistakes a few years back—bad mistakes that ended in tragedy. This resulted in his being tried and convicted of a crime and then given a stiff prison sentence.

You can imagine how he felt when he received that sentence. He was crushed. He felt fear, anger, remorse, hopelessness. And he felt more strongly than ever a desire he'd been feeling for weeks—a desire to end it all, to commit suicide.
