The Christian Science Publishing Society would like to introduce a new-old friend. Beginning the first week of September, the radio broadcast edition of the Christian Science Sentinel went on the air. It will continue to build on the foundation of the broadcast edition of the English Herald programs. Foreign language editions of The Herald of Christian Science will continue to be broadcast in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, and Russian.
The radio edition of the Sentinel will have much in common with its predecessor, the English Herald program that has been discontinued, but there will also be many differences. The Sentinel is distinguished primarily by its mission; Mary Baker Eddy intended it "to hold guard over Truth, Life and Love" (see The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353).
The theme of the radio program each week will mirror the theme of that week's print Sentinel. In addition to topical interviews, testimonies of healing, Letterbox, and hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, each program will include a segment devoted to the Bible, including discussions on the development of the Bible. (As with the English Herald, Reading Rooms and individuals may subscribe to the 48-minute edition of the program, beginning in November.)
